Studies of the Cerebrospinal Fluid Circulation in Tuberculous Meningits in Children
نویسنده
چکیده
Since the introduction by Dandy of the technique of ventriculography (1918) and encephalography (1919) their use has become an indispensable part of neurological investigations. No mention was made of their use in tuberculous meningitis until 1927 when Eckstein reported on the examination of 20 children suffering from this disease. He found varying degrees of hydrocephalus and presumed that this was inevitable in tuberculous meningitis. His view accorded with the usual necropsy findings and thereafter little further work was carried out until the advent of streptomycin. Since then many references have been made to air studies in this disease. Hydrocephalus was frequently found and its causes were analysed by Cairns (1949). In spite of the extensive work on various aspects of tuberculous meningitis treated with streptomycin, only two detailed reports were found on encephalography in presumably unselected groups of cases (Murano, 1948: Schonenberg, 1950).

Effects of mild hypothermia therapy on the levels of glutathione in rabbit blood and cerebrospinal fluid after cardiopulmonary resuscitation
Objective(s): The aim of this study wasto investigate the effects of mild hypothermia therapy on oxidative stress injury of rabbit brain tissue after cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Materials and Methods: Rabbit models of cardiac arrest were established. After the restoration of spontaneous circulation, 50 rabbits were randomly divided into normothermia and hypothermia groups. The followi...
متن کاملThe Comparison of Leukemia Inhibitory Factor (LIF) Concentration in the Serum and Cerebrospinal Fluid of Children with Bacterial Meningitis
Abstract Background and objectives: Meningitis is one of the most common infectious of the central nervous system (CNS), defined as an inflammation of the meninges. LIF is a potent pro-inflammatory factor. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) contains the growth factors and cytokines whose concentrations have been changed in most neurological diseases. The aim of this study was to determine the LIF conce...

Meningitis is one of the most important causes of infant mortality and its early and proper diagnosis is of great importance, but there are currently no laboratory facilities optimized and fast in detection of meningitis pathogens. The current standard of bacterial meningitis diagnosis is microscopic examination and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) culture. This research aimed at isolating the most co...

Meningitis is one of the most common infectious cerebral nervous system (CNS), defined as an inflammation of the meninges. It is clinically categorized into a chronic and acute based on the acuity of symptoms. Vomiting, bulging fontanel and fever are the main symptoms in the patients with meningitis. Bacterial meningitis is a severe, potentially life-threatening infection that is associated wit...
متن کاملEstimation of Lactate Dehydrogenase Activity in cerebrospinal fluid in different types of meningitis
Objective: Meningitis is life-threatening condition and examination of the Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) may not give a precise diagnosis and prognosis of different types of meningitis. Bacterial meningitis is still a very common problem especially in many developing countries. The aims of study are to estimate the importance and significance of Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH), protein...
